Batak Chess Players (From Our Own Correspondent). Medan,
Nov. 1. The Deli Courant states that the Batak chess players, SI Toemboek, Si
Ngoekoem and Si Narsar, intend to make a trip to Singapore and Java. Natives in
the Batak territories (the districts near Brastagi and Prapat) are strong chess
players, the custom being for the men to Play chess, while the women d j the
hard work. On a former occasion, Si Toembroek and Si Ngoekoem met the famous
Dr. Enwe and proved their skill.
